Course Description

This course aims to introduce the basic concepts, theories, reactions of organic chemistry, and the nomenclatures of important types of organic molecules; explain that the structures of organic molecules determine how the molecules function in organic reactions; help to understand the relationship of structure with physical properties and chemical behaviors; emphasize on how to propose reasonable mechanisms for organic reactions and to make predictions for the outcome of new reactions based on known reaction mechanisms; help to learn and practice with designing synthetic routes for simple organic compounds; lead to appreciate the important roles of organic chemistry in life, both biological and economical.
